Professor, doctoral supervisor, Dean of College of Water Resources and Hydropower, academic leader of the national key discipline of hydraulic structure engineering in Hohai university, Director of Chinese National Committee on Large Dams, Convenor of Water Conservancy Engineering Group of Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, National Model Teacher, Scientific and Technological Talent of National Water Conservancy System, Editor-in-Chief of Scientific and Technological Progress of Water Conservancy and Hydropower, State-level candidate of Millions of Talents Project in the New Century, and winner of Scientific and Technological Innovation Award of Chinese Excellent Young People .


Professor GU has been engaged in the research and engineering practice of safety monitoring and health diagnosis theory and technology of hydraulic structures for a long time, especially have made outstanding contribution to the operation risk assessment and control of major water projects, health diagnosis and safety monitoring. Professor GU established operation risk assessment and control theory and technology of major hydraulic engineer, explored and developed health diagnosis theory and technology of major hydraulic concrete structure, as well as innovated the safety monitoring theory and technology of complex hydraulic structures. The innovative theory and technology system of safety monitoring and health diagnosis for major water projects proposed by Professor GU had not only provides the theory and technology to ensure the safe operation of super-standard hydraulic structures, but also offers the innovative core technology to the feedback design and construction of mega-projects, and provides the scientific and technical basis and practical experience for the corresponding revision and compilation of specifications. 


Professor GU is in charge of many important scientific and technological projects, such as the National Programs for Science and Technology Development, National Key Technology Support Program, National Key Research and Development Plan, the Xiaowan and Jinping first-class 300m high arch dam, the Nuozhadu 300m high rockfill dam, the Longtan high roller compacted concrete dam, the three gorges project and so on. He won 15 national and provincial science and technology awards, including one first prize, three second prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, one second prize of The State Technological Invention Award, one special prize and five first prizes of Provincial and Ministerial Scientific and Technological Progress Award; one second prize of National Teaching Achievement Award and one special prize of provincialaward; more than 20 patents for authorized inventions; published more than 180 papers and6 monographs.

In 1984, Professor REN Xuhua graduated from East China Water Conservancy University (now Hohai University) with a bachelor's degree. After graduation, he elected to teach in the university. In 1991, he received a master's degree in hydraulic structure engineering from Hohai University, and received a doctorate in 1997. Professor REN has served as dean of hydropower engineering department, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office, deputy director of Graduate School of Hohai University, director and party secretary of the Jiangning Administration and its CPC Committee, director of Science and Technology Department, director of Synergy Innovation Office, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Changzhou Campus, Hohai University. Now, he is the member of Hohai University Committee, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering College, executive deputy director of


Professor REN is mainly engaged in the teach and research work of water conservancy and hydropower engineering. The main research direction is the high dam and complex foundations, hydraulic underground structures, hydraulic structures reinforcement technology and so on. In recent years, Professor REN has been in charge of more twenty projects including National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Technology Support Program and other major programs as well as published more than 30 papers and authored “Modern Engineering Design Method”. Professor GU is also the host of national excellent course “Hydraulic Structures”. He has won the special prize of Jiangsu Excellent Education and Teaching Achievements and the second prize of National Teaching Achievements.


Professor REN is fully responsible for the work of party committee, party construction, publicity and spiritual civilization construction, enrollment of part-time master of engineering, as well as staff congress, trade union and college office work, co-management of college development strategy and planning, personnel and financial affairs.

 


Deputy Dean: FANG Guohua


FANG Guohua, female, from Dingyuan, Anhui Province

Professor FANG graduated from Hefei University of Technology in July 1986 with a bachelor's degree in Farmland Water Conservancy Engineering and with a master's degree in hydrology and water resources, 1989. In June 1992, Professor FANG graduated from the Department of Hydropower, Hohai University with a doctorate degree. After graduation, Professor FANG elected to teach in the university and was promoted to associate professor in April 1995, professor in April 2001 and doctoral supervisor in June 2003. During 2000, Professor FANG went to Delft University in the Netherlands as a visiting scholar for three months and went to Jiangsu Provincial Water Conservancy Department for temporary training in 2001. 


Currently, Professor FANG is the deputy dean of College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, concurrently serves as a member of Hydropower Planning and Kinetic Energy Economy Special Committee of China Hydropower Society, a member of Hydro-Power Planning and Design Special Committee of Jiangsu Province Hydro-power Institute, an expert in water resources appraisal and evaluation of national construction projects, and an expert in evaluation of water and soil conservation schemes of national development and construction projects 


Currently, Professor FANG is mainly engaged in water resources planning and utilization, water conservancy and hydropower system planning, water conservancy economy, hydropower reservoir optimal operation, engineering management and other aspects of teaching and scientific research work. In the meantime, Professor FANG has been responsible for more than 100 projects of National Programs for Science and Technology Development, funds, “948” programs of Minister of Water Resources and other key programs at provincial level. Professor FANG has published more than ten teaching materials and treatises, over 100 papers and won six awards at provincial and ministerial level, twenty at departmental and bureau level for teaching and scientific achievements.

SHEN Zhenzhong, Professor, doctoral supervisor.


Professor SHEN graduated from Hohai University in 1990 and with a Master's degree in Hydraulics and River Dynamics in 1993 and a Doctor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering in 1995. After graduation, Professor SHEN elected to teach in the university. Currently, Professor SHEN is an assistant to the dean of the College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering g. From 2000 to 2002, he was engaged in postdoctoral research in the Department of Civil Engineering (Systems), Kyoto University, Japan. He was appointed professor in 2003 and has been a doctoral supervisor in hydraulic structural engineering and hydropower construction engineering management since 2004 and 2005. Professor SHEN is also a supervisor for master's degree students in water hazards and water safety.


Main research directions: deformation and stress analysis of hydraulic structures; strength and stability analysis of structure and foundation; static and dynamic structural analysis, seismic safety evaluation and seismic measures of earth-rockfill dams; numerical simulation of crack propagation in hydraulic concrete; seepage analysis, control and optimization of hydraulic structures and their foundations, architectural foundation pits, underground engineering surrounding rocks, rock and soil slopes, etc, discontinuous deformation analysis of continuous-discontinuous media, numerical manifold method and element-free method, theory and method of dam safety comprehensive evaluation and on-line monitoring; comprehensive evaluation of flood control, seepage, structure, site and operation of water conservancy and hydropower projects, safety analysis and safety operation management. 


Professor SHEN has been responsible for or participated in the completion of more than 70 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the National Key Scientific and Technological projects, funds at provincial and ministerial-level, and projects of various types of water conservancy and hydropower projects, transportation engineering, and mining engineering at home and abroad. Professor SHEN also has published more than 140 academic papers and 5 monographs. The research results have won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, one first prize, one second prize of Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Progress, one second prize of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region for scientific and technological progress, Gansu Provincial Water Conservancy Department Special Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, third prize of China Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Corporation Award, one third prize of State Grid Corporation Award, one first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award for Fujian Province, two prizes of  Science and Technology Progress Award for Hohai University, and the 5th Youth Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Academy of Rock Mechanics and Engineering. Professor SHEN is also a young and middle-aged science and technology leader of Jiangsu Province's 333 High-Level Talent Training Project and has won many teaching awards. 


Currently, Professor SHEN undertakes more than ten scientific research projects of various kinds, directs doctoral students majoring in hydraulic structure engineering, water conservancy and hydropower construction engineering management, water disaster and water safety, and has more than 30 postgraduate students and more than 10 master students majoring in water conservancy engineering.

Deputy Secretary: DAI Yuzhen


Dai Yuzhen, female, born in April 1975. 


 After graduating from Hohai University in 1998, DAI stayed on as a counselor, secretary of the Youth-League Committee, deputy director of the Personnel Department, deputy secretary of the League Committee, and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Computer and Information Technology. DAI has engaged in party and administrative management in colleges and universities, ideological and political education and research work. Presided over and participated in the provincial and school-level student education and management research. DAI has completed five research projects on party building, published a lot of papers and won the honorary title of Jiangsu New Long March Commandos. 
 DAI is responsible for undergraduate and graduate ideological and political education, daily management, employment work, undergraduate enrollment and college league committee work, co-management of party building, publicity and spiritual civilization building and full-time graduate enrollment.
